Production starts on Ford F-150-based Hennessey VelociRaptor 600

NEWS
Hennessey, the American tuning company behind the Venom GT, F5 hypercar and plenty of enhanced muscle cars, has started building the new VelociRaptor 600, a significantly upgraded Ford F-150 pick-up. It’s not the first time Hennessey has turned its attention to enhancing the performance of a Ford off-roader, because the firm unveiled its 405bhp Ford Bronco VelociRaptor 400 last year. This new F150-based truck uses the same 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 as the standard Raptor but with a host of upgrades. This includes enhanced air induction, a high-capacity intercooler with blow off valve and an upgraded engine-management system. Hennessey claims the new VelociRaptor 600 will cover the 0-60mph sprint in 4.2 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds. Changes aren’t just limited to the engine, because for an extra $17,950 (on top…

New 2022 Aston Martin ‘DBX S’ to be revealed on 1 February

New 2022 Aston Martin ‘DBX S’ to be revealed on 1 February

NEWS
Aston Martin will reveal a new SUV on 1 February, and is already claiming the new car will be the “world’s most powerful luxury SUV”.It’s widely expected to be a high-performance variant of the DBX, possibly using the brand’s own in-house developed V12 power over the Mercedes 4.0-litre V8 engine used in the standard version of the DBX, the DB11 and the new Vantage. As our spy shots reveal, the design of the DBX S will be markedly more aggressive than that of the original DBX. A much larger grille takes centre stage at the front, and loses the horizontal slats of the standard car in favour of a black mesh. The front bumper has been restyled around the new grille, with a single, deep air vent that spans the width of…

New 2022 Volvo XC90 replacement could be called Embla

NEWS
Volvo’s next-generation, all-electric replacement for the XC90 could be given the name Embla, according to new trademark applications made by the Swedish brand. “This will be the first of its kind. We should also then mark that by deviating from our normal way of giving our cars names,” said outgoing Volvo boss Hakan Samuelsson at the unveiling of the Concept Recharge last year – a Volvo concept described by the brand as a ‘manifesto’ of its future models and a preview of its new SUV. The overhaul of Volvo’s rival to the Land Rover Discovery will be made possible using the SPA2 platform that will allow the brand’s biggest SUV to be electrified from the start. The Recharge Concept uses Volvo’s new SPA2 platform, which is scalable for cars ranging from the…

It’s also likely that the new Mondeo will share the Evos’ platform. It takes plenty of design inspiration from the Evos SUV, sharing the same design language as Changan Ford’s other new model. A bold front grille is joined by an LED lighting bar running along…

New 2022 Kia Niro: new details confirmed for hybrid SUV

NEWS
Kia has confirmed additional details on the second-generation Kia Niro and e-Niro SUVs, following their unveiling at last year’s Seoul Mobility show. The new Niro uses an updated version of the previous car’s platform rather than the new E-GMP underpinnings, which are reserved for the brand’s pure EVs. The three powertrains have been confirmed: a standard hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and the fully electric e-Niro. In the ground-up redesign, the new Niro takes influences from Kia’s 2019 Habaniro concept; namely the front-end design and the two-tone effect on the car’s C-pillars. Unusually, the C-pillar also houses the vertically stacked tail-lights, visually separating them from the tailgate, which adopt a boomerang shape. At the front, the brand’s trademark ‘tiger face’ has evolved, with a large lower intake and small upper grille separated by a…

New 2022 Citroen C5 X: UK prices and specs revealed

NEWS
The quirky new Citroen C5 X flagship model is on sale now, with prices starting from £26,490. The line-up includes three trim levels, and the choice of pure petrol or plug-in hybrid power. At first glance, usage of the C5 nameplate is a tricky one to wrap your head around. The C5 X is worlds apart from the more functional character of C5 Aircross SUV and is positioned as being slightly more premium, thanks to its cleaner surfacing and minimalist classy interior. However, the C5 X does share its EMP2 platform, as well as its petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with the C5 Aircross (and, indeed, other larger members on the PSA side of the Stellantis group). The naming is best explained by Citroen CEO Vincent Cobée, who told us: “We’ve had a…
