New 2022 Land Rover Defender 130 revealed in patent images

New 2022 Land Rover Defender 130 revealed in patent images

NEWS
We've already spied the forthcoming Land Rover Defender 130 in disguised form, but these newly published patent images give us our clearest look yet at the eight-seater SUV. The Defender 130 will feature an extended body, making it the largest and most spacious iteration of the reborn off-roader and completing a three-tiered line-up of Defender models, alongside the 90 and 110. From these patent images, it appears that the wheelbase of the Defender 130 will remain unchanged. Instead, the extra length is afforded by a much longer rear overhang than the 110, with a larger side window that extends all the way to the back of the car. Land Rover will probably utilise the extra space to improve leg room for third-row passengers, as well as increasing boot capacity. The extended rear overhang…

All-new 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT spotted ahead of launch

NEWS
Our spy photographers have caught the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT sports car testing in Sweden, giving us our first look at Affalterbach’s Porsche 911 rival. The next AMG GT will be based on the latest Mercedes SL, and could feature a V8 hybrid powertrain with more than 800bhp.From these spy shots, it’s clear that the AMG GT will adopt a similar silhouette to the outgoing car, with a low nose, long bonnet and a smooth, tapering rear end. This cab-rearward design has been a mark of the AMG GT since it was unveiled in 2014, but this new model will be thoroughly redesigned with Mercedes’ current styling language. Beneath the disguise, this pre-production car is fitted with a slimmer set of headlights than the outgoing car, and has a grille that appears…

Next-generation Mercedes E-Class to stick with combustion engines

Next-generation Mercedes E-Class to stick with combustion engines

NEWS
The next Mercedes E-Class is coming in 2023, and at a time of all-electric rebirth for the German brand, it will set out to prove that Merc’s combustion-powered favourite is still an important model. It will hit UK roads in the second half of next year, beating the next-generation BMW 5 Series to market. However, while its rival will come with an all-electric option alongside its combustion and hybrid drivetrains, the E-Class will stick with 48-volt mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines, plus plug-in hybrid power. Instead, Mercedes’s electric EQE saloon will line up as the E-Class’s EV stablemate. New E-Class development prototypes have been spotted on public roads in Europe, as Mercedes gears up to replace one of its most popular and iconic models. The nameplate has been around for nearly 30…

New Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrids revealed

New Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrids revealed

NEWS
Jeep has added new hybrid options to the Renegade and Compass line-up, both badged e-Hybrid and adding conventional hybrid power to each model’s respective line-up. Both models have, until now, been offered with plug-in hybrid power as the only electrified drivetrains available. The new e-Hybrid models remove the plug-in aspect by pairing a smaller battery charged by braking regeneration, with a less powerful electric motor system and turbocharged petrol power. Both make use of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine developing 128bhp and 240Nm. It sends drive to the front wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid side of things is taken care of by a small battery and a 20bhp electric motor also driving the front wheels, and running on a 48-volt electrical system. Jeep hasn’t issued any fuel economy figures,…

2023 BMW X5 M facelift spotted

NEWS
The BMW X5 is due to be facelifted next year, and as these spy shots reveal, testing has begun for the updated high-performance M version. The new X5 M will receive numerous design changes, a revamped interior and potentially even more power. At the front, slimmer headlight units flank a new pair of kidney grilles with a more angular design, although BMW has resisted fitting a set of oversized openings. The new grilles have a thicker bezel, and sit above a reprofiled lower intake that appears lower and wider than before. On this test car, BMW looks to be covering up a pair of fog lights and vertical cooling slats beneath the headlights. This pre-production example also wears a new set of alloy wheels, shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
